About Us:

The Massachusetts Association of Student Councils (MASC) is an organization under the Massachusetts Secondary School Administrators’ Association (MSSAA) that brings together Student Councils from all over Massachusetts. Through conferences spread through out the year, Student Councils are able to build upon their own integrity and efficiency via activities that focus on the sharing of information and building of individual leadership qualities.

Our belief at MASC is that student councils should be the best that they can be in order to make schools have a friendly environment and make the community better as a whole. At each conference all attendees have a chance to make our belief into a reality. And the experience doesn’t just stop at student council. The skills that students develop through our conferences will help them through out their life giving them a better chance to succeed and at the same time encouraging leadership among others through their own actions.

When students come to MASC conferences the first thing they can expect is to be brought out of their “comfort zone.” When students’ comfort zones are expanded they’re more apt to take healthy risks like volunteering for projects or even chairing one. Changes can also be seen in how students’ communicate to other people with an overall boost in conversational confidence.

During Officershop and the Spring Conference advisors will be able to attend workshops, while students have all three of our conferences available to them. The fact that both advisors and students are able to participate in workshops ensures there is a constant source to feed all elements of a student council. Workshop topics vary from year to year, though common topics include (but are not limited to) publicity, community service, and stress management.

MASC is also a part of the National Association of Student Councils where students from all over the country can go to a yearly conference and have a chance to share information across the USA. Under the state association there are also four regional associations (SEMASC, CDMASC, NEMASC, and WMASC) where both students and advisors can obtain and share additional information.
